 Sleep Aid

I have found that when I am having difficulty going to sleep that if I mentally go over scales it puts me right to sleep.

Unfortunately, that sometimes happens to me while I am playing them.

Wait 'til you play in a musical with an extended run and you get the crappiest tune stuck on "auto replay" by your brain - grrrr!!

Here's a tune for you ALL to get stuck in your heads, ok?

I am sixteen going on seventeen ...

sorry!!

"If you like pina coladas ..."
"raindrops keep fallin' on my head ..."
"memories, like the corners of my mind ..."
" look at me, I'm as helpless as a kitten up a tree ..."

This thread has turned out mean (as he tries to get "songs washed out of my head" - paraphrased from South Pacific").

Bali Hai, indeed.

Actually, I've found that some tunes keep playing themselves in my head, sort of keeping me from sleeping. On out of town trips, I recall the "Vanished Army" with a concert band and also "Baritone Amore" with a dance band. It's like having a built in tape recorder.

"My name is Michael... I gotta a nickel.... I gotta nickel.... shiny and new"......

Goin' on thirty years now that Clinton Holmes "Playground in My Mind' creeps in and out of my mind.

I've heard that if you take any song done by the Beatles and sing it in your head it'll get rid of any other song in your head. I've tried it and it works!!

The only problem is if you have a Beatles song running in your head... Go over scales??

Thank you diz, we are well stocked here with Vegemite and Marmite but how about the ultimate...

... I would not be just a nothin'

My head all full of stuffin'

My heart all full of pain.

I would dance and be merry,

Life would be a ding-a-derry,

If I only had a brain. ...

... dum de dum da, da de da ... hmm de da da, da de da

This seems to run on the "repeat option" principle. What I personally call the "Infinity bottles of Beer" syndrome.

"Infinity bottles of beer on the wall.
Infinity bottles of beer.
Take one down, pass it around... uh...
Infinity bottles of beer on the wall!
Infinity bottles of beer on the wall.
Infinity bottles of beer.
Take one down..."

Try getting rid of that one once you start it!

"I know a song that gets on everybody's nerves,
Everybody's nerves,
Everybody's nerves..."

My personal favorite...

"It is the song that never ends
It just goes on and on my friends
Some people started singing it
Not knowing what it was
But the'll continue singing it forever
just because
It is the song that never ends
....
...."

Now, now, gentlemen, let's lay off Erroll Garner and Rodgers & Hammerstein, shall we?

But you're absolutely right about "Small World".

Hm. I made a great suggestion to help everyone to go to sleep and the rest of you have offered up several ways to stay awake!
