Wouldn't it be cool to show up with one of those at your next band rehearsal or gig? :-) I'd sit right behind a flute player. Anybody got 18 grand they can lend me? I'll pay you back, eventually:-)

I like the "narrow bore for less air consumption". I wonder if there's any delay between intially blowing into the horn and the sound coming out, like a bagpipe. It's so big, it could use a bellows:-)

Seriously, what kind of repertoire would be played on this instrument?

You can hear this beast on Scott Robinson-Thinking Big on Arbors records.
I can't judge it's musical merit because it just makes me laugh so much every time I hear it.

Pictures don't tell the whole story but it appears to be a nicely made instrument. If I had 17 grand sitting around in the petty cash drawer I might be interested. I wonder how much it weighs. Looks like you'd need a forklift to move it around.

It looks to much more compact in size than the Orsi Contra-sax as played by the group Nuclear Whales.

One went on Ebay for 26,000 some time back. I remember the description saying 12 feet. This one seems to be kinda like the "paperclip" models.

I've read that the Tubax (an original design as I understand it, not a brand of contrabass sax) is a legitimate instrument that plays well.

Dennis let me play the Tubax at USA Horn in Oradell, NJ. It is VERY responsive for a contrabass horn.
