can someone help identify the maker of a 6 key clarinet with the following makings? the clarinet is marked of the barrel, upper, lower joints, and bell with:
Bb
H P
it seems to have been applied with a hammer stamp. the mouthpiece is marked:
A. ROBERT SOLIST
PARIS
FRANCE
and is made with two types of material. does the H P signify that it is a high pitched Bb?
in anthony baines' reference of woodwinds there is an indication that these 6-key clarinets were inexpensive, low end english band instruments. any comments on this?

Leo,
I know you asked this question a week or two agoand are probably disappointed that there were no answers. The reason there were no answers is because this maker (or at least this mark) is not recorded in my reference books.
For those of you who I've been able to help in identifying instrument, please consider making a donation to Sneezy.Org by visiting http://www.sneezy.org/Pledge.html, The "Bluebook" people charge for their service; mine is free.

There is no way to tell the maker when there is no mark on the clarinet. Markings on mouthpieces have no relevance to who made the clarinet as the clarinet players would often replace mouthpieces.

Yes, leo, the "HP" indicates that it is a high pitch Clarinet. As such, it is not compatible with the usual A=440/442 stuff of today.
