 Nielson Quintet
Author: Melanie
Date:   2002-03-08 09:08

Yesterday, I was given a list of ww quintets to search for so that our school could order them for our ensemble. I was able to find: Ligeti, Machaut, Hindemith, Ibert, and Barber; but, I couldn't find the Nielsen Quintet. Does anyone know a good place to find it? Also, any other suggestions for music? Thanks!

Taffanel quintet is a very nice piece to play, no so difficult as Nielsen.
Have you ever played Danzi's and Reicha's quintets? They are very nice, not so difficult and the principal classic repertoire for woodwind quintet.

I love the Klughardt Quintet. It's very rich sounding and not too hard.

Modern editions of the Reicha quintets are heavily cut. This is not all bad, but the edition I have of the most popular one (in Eb) is eviscerated. If you want the complete editions, you may have to go to the complete works edition, which is in the larger libraries. However, these are scores, and it's a big job to copy them, cut them apart and paste them up as individual parts.

Best regards.

I'm with Ken on the Klughardt. Great piece of music written by someone who obviously knew the quintet.

I bought the Neilsen at Stanton's in Columbus only a few years ago.
