I'm interested in doing a duet with my girlfriend. (I'm a trumpet player). Any recommendations on duets or maybe duets for clarinet that sound good with both instruments?

Since they are in the same key you won't have to do any transpositions. The clarinet has a much larger range. Clarinet parts may go to low or high for many trumpet players. I think I would look at some trumpet duets. I would just keep the players' abilities in mind when deciding on which parts to assign. Is your relationship strong enough the play together?

You're in the same key - any literature for clarinet or trumpet works. My other half is also a trumpet player.. we actually met because we both liked to play duets on stage rather than take a study hall at the end of the school year when normal concert aband wsa over. =)
I know quite a few trumpet/clarinet pairings... an odd coincidence, or is there logic in there somewhere?

Yes... but put a mute in it! (The trumpet, of course!) Seriously, you'll need to balance the sound output in some way.

Scott -
Mozart wrote a bunch of duets for 2 horns that are often transcribed for other instruments. I've done several with trumpet on the second line, and they work very well.
Best regards.
