 Left hand problems
Author: Cindy
Date:   2002-03-06 00:56

I have read many posts on this board about right wrists and hands hurting, but after a major concert yesterday I can't play at all because it hurts my left hand. Its mainly that I cannot tense the muscles at all, or move them far enough apart to cover the holes. Its not the wrist at all. It just sends a shooting pain accross the back of my hand. Has this ever happened to anyone else? What do you think is wrong, and why? What should I do to help it get better?

I seem to have the same problem lately, started about 4-5 months ago, now my left hand hurts almost all the time, especially when I play --- I'm guessing it's a form of tendinitis, but I'm not a doctor (nor do I play one on TV) so this is just speculation. I suspect the cure is to stop playing for a few weeks, but of course this is not a good option for those of us who participate in this BB!

I also am not a Doctor, although I used to play one on the radio.

I would suggest that seeing a real physician real soon would be a great idea. This does not seem like the sort of problem where one should rely on home remedies.

Regards,
John

I'm not a doctor either, but do admit to playing doctor at about the age of 10...

Seeing a physician is always the safest bet. Only speculation, but carpal tunnel syndrome always can rear it's ugly head. Eventually a nerve conduction velocity (NCV) test can pinpoint the extent of the degradation. Next would be a wrist brace or support, followed by physical therapy.

Not to scare you, but check in with the MD, as this is something that requires professional guidance...GBK
