Some years ago I bought a second-hand clarinet but have not been able to trace its history. It's a standard Bb instrument, wooden body (no cracks or splits) with a plastic bell and metal bell ring. The keys look to be nickel plated. The bell is engraved 'Lafleur imported by Boosey & Hawkes London. Foreign. The serial number is 406614. I fitted a Vandoren mouthpiece as I could not get on with the original, and the instrument plays and sounds very well. I played for a while in a clarinet quartet and there were no complaints! Can anyone tell me any more about this instrument?

I can't help more than to suggest that my simplistic translation would be "The Flower". I have no familiarity with B & H's marketing methods, but, at least earlier, in the US, instruments, likely made made by lesser-known mfgrs., were "stencilled" with a "big name" for competitive sales efforts. Any info, Mark? Don
