I saw that yesterday and thought it was pretty funny. Who knows what you'd actually get if you won that auction!

Talk about taking a risk on ebay. This is the riskiest ever. He gives no gaurentees on what he is selling. If I send $1000 he could send a few indian army instruments and it would be perfectly legal.

I remember when I first went on ebay an item listed around the lines of "total junk." The discription was around the lines of, "do not bid on this because it is total junk" and it had no picture. I can recall some rather large bids taking place.

P.T. Barnum would have had a ball with ebay. Step right up folks, don't delay - this is absolutely the LAST DAY to send in your dollar. :-))

Thank you for the link, Sarah, interesting. Looked at several of his listings, prob one of the metal cls is the "4 piece" I mentioned, much too high for the box! If the old alto sax IS a Chu Berry, cant read the bell embellishments, it might be a real investment. Cavaet emptor !!

I could put together a "surprise box" for $84.99:

Vibrator reeds (only the brown/toasty ones)
Bundy mouthpieces (chipped)
Ligatures (screws may or may not be included)
LaVoz Pad Saver (used - starting to disintigrate)
Plastic mouthpiece caps (cracked)
Assorted used pads (already contains glue on back)
One barrel guaranteed not to fit any clarinet made in past 30 yrs.
Pull through swab (torn just enough to snag the register tube)
LH B natural key broken off at the post
Assorted corks (dry rot not too advanced)

(Other mystery items to follow later this week, as I still have some beginner lessons scheduled for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday)...GBK

I guess I don't understand the "attitude" regarding eBay. What's different about eBay than any local newspaper Want Ads? I've had one bad experience attempting to purchase a clarinet and it wasn't on eBay. So, some people who advertise on eBay don't know what they're selling.....so what's new?

Hey, now I know what to do with the castoffs from my spring cleaning. Who needs garage sales when you can pawn off a pile of Mystery Junk on eBay for $84.00? And in case you missed out on the first auction, the seller has thoughtfully set up another one just like it:

The "surprise" will probably be the old Albert Efer or a box of old used reeds.

I happen to be an honest eBay user. I both buy and sell from that format and have learned to avoid the dishonest and greedy people and enjoy the good stuff. This taxijazz guy has been around for a while and all I can say is just avoid the stuff if you don't want it and don't feel good about it. His dentist mouthpiece deal is nuts! But, there are some good people on eBay as well. I've only had one bad deal in the several years I've done business on eBay and that was from a buyer who really turned into a monster over a deal that I lost $1,500.00 on.

There's nothing wrong with eBay as a forum of trade, and we know there are honest users and worthwhile items being offered. But there's nothing wrong with poking fun (or shamelessly mocking, as the case may be) at the weirder offerings, or collectively marveling at just how shamelessly brazen some people can be in pawning off junk and making it sound like gold. ;-) Humor is health-giving and invigorating -- and in fact, I think I will go offer some humor for sale on eBay right now!

diz...Remember Vibrator reeds? Probably the worst reeds ever mass marketed (unfortunately, heaps of them were sold to school districts).

We had a few chuckles about Vibrator reeds a while back - if you care to get a few laughs:
