"The Art of Clarinet Playing" - Keith Stein

"The Clarinetist's Compendium" - Daniel Bonade

"The Clarinet and Clarinet Playing" - David Pino

"The Art of Saxophone Playing" - Larry Teal

Kal Opperman's book: "Handbook for Making and Adjusting Single Reeds"(1956) is out of print.

Also, check back issues of "The Clarinet" magazine for additional worthwhile articles on reed working/balancing/adjusting/etc...GBK

I recently bought Vito Platamonte's *Clarinet and Saxophone Reed Adjustments*. However, I've not read it yet, hence can't comment on it. Vito was once Principal Clarinetist with the New Orleans Symphony, for what it's worth. The book is quite small, and it only set me back about five dollars.

if you have access to a library that has "The Clarinet" there are many good articles- in particular "The Reed Connection, parts one and two" by Henry Larsen. There are also at least two articles that are summaries of what else is available- ie an article by Lee Livengood (Lee, hope i got the spelling "write", i'm terrible!) that lists all the previous articles in the clarinet, plus books etc.... that was in the 1980s i think, and much has been published since then, but that is still a good reference. I have read virtually everything there is to read on reeds that i could ever find, and i STILL hear about a new book i haven't seen..... I really think that the Keith Stein chapter on reeds (see above) crossed with Henry Larsen (there are slight contradictions that you will have to think about) plus some Ben Armato, give you the best education...
but then again- i still end up with a bad reed, like today- i have a recording gig this afternoon AAAAAHHHHH actually i'd better get off the computer and do my warm ups! and then, TRY to find a reed (my best V12 sounded great on Wed, but.......)
Maybe if a university in a nearby town has the Clarinet, you could make a trip there and photocopy like crazy for the afternoon.....
