how do i get rid of them? with sandpaper? what kind?

Color over the gold with a black permanent marker, or maybe try looking at the music instead of at your mouthpiece while you're playing. Slobber all over your mouthpiece, and don't ever clean it, and it will eventually lose the shiny new mouthpiece look without any further effort.

Yes, you can remove the logo by sanding. Get "wet-or-dry" sandpaper in 400 and 600 grit at the hardware store. Start by sanding with the 400 grit until the logo is completely gone, then switch to the 600 grit for the final finish. Bote the logo and the gloss will be gone.
A word of caution: use the paper in a "shoeshine" fashion to avoid producing flat spots, and DO NOT sand the facing, (the area where the reed lies).

How about covering it with a thin black mouthpiece patch (will also protect the mouthpiece against ligature scratches)? Then, when your heirs sell it, they'll get $35 on eBay instead of $15.

If you play well, no one will care. Why bother? Use the sanding time to work on reeds and to practice!
