Hi all-
my friend is coming in town next week, and needs to buy a new A clarinet. Would any of you know good places in New York City or surroundings that have a good selection and wont be too pricy?
thanks!
michal.

Hi:
I would try the Woodwind and Brasswind on 23rd St. I tried a whole bunch of Bb clarinets there and purchased one when I was in NYC at the end of September. Good selection, good prices IMHO
Regards,
Mitch

Be careful on 48th street. They appear to have no clue about pricing.

Sam Ash is a great place to try. They have several locations throughout the city. Check out their website and see what they have to offer.

Go to the guy on 5th Ave shouting "Clarinets, I got Clarinets".

Fred Weiner. Large selection, prices competitive with all the other mail-order places. Very knowledgable guy.
Best regards,

Weiner has a good stock, but, it's out on Long Island and hard to find. Frankly, it's the most unwelcoming place I've ever been. However good they may be by mail order, my experience is that personal service in the store is unacceptable.
In NYC, its WW&BW on 23rd St. first, Sam Ash on 48th St. second, and maybe Roberto on 46th St. third, though their stock is small. If you can deal with grunge and know enough to believe your own senses rather than what they'll tell you, International on 48th St. usually has a couple of used Buffet A clarinets.
Best regards.

Is it true that Fred Weiner Music lost their Buffet dealers license? I had heard it through the grapevine, and was just courious.

I would be surprised to hear that Weiner's lost their Buffet dealer credential. From all appearances B&H seems to give out those licenses like party favors. They certainly don't seem to be too discriminating.
