Better, in theory at least. Top of the line instruments with narrower bore than 1010, but much less popular in practice, though some orchestras used them. Unfairly overshadowed by 1010.

Undoubtedly better. I played on an Edgeware when I was at school and have used an Imperial (borrowed when my own clars. were stolen) for a short time. The 926 was used by several players in British orchestras til quite recently, although I don't know any current examples.

See my posting re:Edgwares below. Having also overhauled a 1010, I was rather surprised by the similarity between the various B&H clarinet models --- although there are some esthetic differences in key plating, tenon ring trim design and bell exterior design, I found that the basic clarinets (bore, tonehole placement, and mechanism design) seemed nearly identical across the range.

I have been actively buying B&H clarinets for a while. I get them refurbished (fancy for spend money) here, and I get parts through contacts in England. Dave S is the quality expert. And others have experience playing them. I can only speak to the costs.
The prices in Europe are significantly higher than here in the US. B&H is a revered name, and the used instruments can get used parts at the local shoppes. Peter Eaton's clarinets keep reminding people of the long B&H tradition. see sneezy archives for his story
Another problem is the cost to get the instrument into the country. Shipping is only one aspect. US customs is quite another. $18+- for a $250 value. At L300 GPS, or $453 with Paypal's exchange rate, your are looking at an additional $45. Then add insurance.
I have always felt that I have a $75 disadvantage per instrument, just as a quick mental number. I now have a Swiss business partner who actually flies my instruments to and from the US. Quite a savings.
There is a set of 1010s in the sneezy classifieds. Perhaps they are still available? My impression from emailing with the seller is they are in very good shape. Check out the price. You would still have to get them into the country, but contact me off list for some ideas.

Anne - just curious, have you had the opportunity to play one of Peter's clarinets? They look beautiful - obviously he spends a considerable amount of time on their crafting.
