Author: danny (ireland)

i'm 17 and have been playing for about 7 years, i'm still using the Buffet B12 i got first day, i'm planning of upgrading to maybe a E13 or R13, both Buffet. i dont know much about either and would welcome any advice.
i would prefere i think to stick to a buffet clarinet.

also if anybody could suggest a good mouth-piece

thanks for any help and sorry for wasting your time with this, but my search has turned up very little.

Buffet are very good clarinets, don't get me wrong, but I suggest you also try out Selmer and LeBlanc before you decide to upgrade. Many of us, in sneezy, use Selmer or Le Blanc as a preference to Buffet.

Make a critical assessment before you buy. Also, Yamaha also make pro-clarinets, but I've not played one - but they might be worth the try, too.

good luck

"Many of us, in sneezy, use Selmer or Le Blanc as a preference to Buffet."

Diz--that's a pretty blanket statement that is probably not remotely true. What is true is that one should try multiple brand names and that any pick from one of the big 4 that plays well for you is perfect.

Yes well, you are correct - my wording should, rather have stated: many people I am in CONTACT with via sneezy use other brands. My point, which you obviously missed, was to make a assessment by trying out all possibilities - if you find the R-13 your wonder clarinet, then go for it - I agree it's a wonderful instrument - I just don't play it as a personal preference.

yes, of course. just one question--how did I "obviously miss your point"? I said the same thing you did...I guess I must be missing something else!

thanks for the advice diz but how do i make a "critical assessment" without playing them? compleatly out of the question here. i was thinking of going for a Buffet as they are the ones i know the most about.

if you could maybe help point me in the right direction on what to get
please, please :)

thanks

Is there no way you could have instruments sent to you on trial, Danny? This is often a great way for people who live in remote areas to try horns...being in Europe, you may want to try http://www.matthewsmusic.nl as a source of instruments...good luck with your search!
