 Eine Kleine Nachtmusik in Bb??

Where can I get the score for Eine Kleine Nachtmusik in Bb? I am doing an experiment in my chamber group to see if I can tackle the score & sound good in the process. I really do not fancy transposing it

Mike,

The best place to first try is the Sneezy sponsor, Sheet Music Plus. They also run a site called VirtualSheetMusic where you can download it after buying it.

Our clar choir played it [at least one movement] and it was transposed as needed. I played [my Eb] alto cl on it, and am quite sure the sopranos were in Bb. Look in Brymer and Lawson, they prob. give sources for transposed parts. Don

I played the entire work years ago in a clarinet choir, so it *is* available somewhere.

I played it in HS in Bb for clarinet choir or quintet arranged by Clair W. Johnson and I played it last year and last year we played a different arrangement of it (more advanced) for a full clarinet choir Transcribed by F. Sacci. I'm not sure where either were ordered, but I know it is possible to get it. Maybe this will help!

Good Luck!

Hm - from my own experience as both clarinetist and viola player - don't touch the piece. Mozart's writting was so well defined for strings that a transposition of this music, IMHO, is useless. Why not try something much more exciting like his gran partita? Afterall, it's at least written with clarinets in mind.

Did you ever play it? I did, and I loved it, especially as a bass clarinetist playing the first movement. ;-) And I thought the piece sounded quite nice rendered by mixed clarinets. Not at all "useless," in my experience. YMMV.

I have played an arrangement for clarinets, yes - much prefer the string ensemble version ... but if it worked for you, that's great!!

Well, there's no substitute for actually being "inside" a piece, and I don't play a string instrument, so.... ;-)

Our clarinet quartet plays a french transcription of it. Not sure if its in print. It can be for 4 Bb's or Eb/Bb/Alto/Bass or any combination. It sound very nice..more like an organ playing the piece than a string quartet. we always get compliments from folks when we play it. blake
