Does anyone out there know what type of mouthpiece cap I could use that would fit over the Optimum ligature? It's pretty big for all the caps I've tried to slide over.
Thanks.

I do not know if they are even still in business but I am using an old plastic "Sounds of Woodwinds" cap that came with a string ligiture I purchased back in the late sixties. Some of my old metal Winslow lig caps work as well. I guess it really pays to never throw anything away--you should see my basement!!!! Good Clarineting!!!!!!

Vandoren makes a matching silver plated mouthpiece cap <a href="http://www.vandoren.com/Product/optlig.htm">http://www.vandoren.com/Product/optlig.htm</a>.

My optimum came with a cap. It was quite expensive, but everyone I play with says 'it looks nice'. ;- ^

Isn't using the sepecially designated cup for any
specific mouthpiece important???
Since Optimum ligature bears a sort of unique design
you may consider using the cup which is matched for it.
I know some people damaged the ligatures using different
a ligature cap. I could be occurred due to the force against
the ligature as they put the cao on or loose cap caused
some damage during the transprtation... I don't know.
Vandoren provides Optimum a silver cap which people are
furious about its price, and a plastic cap as an inexpensive
alternative. I think the plastic one is pretty good because
you won't scratch the beautiful ligature itself by the cap.
I myself am using Optimum with a matched silver cap.
Second to Emms, it sure is great looking, and it does
its job. That was a gift from my friends. If I'm buying one,
I would go with a plastic one. It works & looks good too.
The bottom line is that if you want to keep your expensive
ligature in shape, having a matched MP cap will be beneficial
so that you won't damage your ligature and mouthpiece.

Thanks for the advice all. I'll look into the cost of the Vandy metal cap and also a plastic alternative.

LynnB -
Search through the sax mouthpiece caps at your local music store. An alto or tenor cap should fit, particularly if it's plastic. That's what I did for my contra-alto mouthpiece, which a bass sax cap fits perfectly.
If you're concerned about damage in the case, a glasses case (the kind you slide the glasses in from the end) or a thick sock will do. For larger mouthpieces that tend to rattle around in cases, I use anklet athletic socks I got from a street vendor, two pair for $2.00.
Best regards.
