Are the JD Hites better than the premieres because they are hard rubber? Would I sacrifice tone for using a plastic mouthpiece?
Thanks

The hite is a better mouthpiece for the reasons you mention. The Premiere is meant to be an alternative to the plastic mouthpiece shaped objects often being put into the cases of unsuspecting students. The Premiere has had some work done to it and they are a good step up mouthpiece, where the Hite is a pro mouthpiece. Go with the Hite.

I use both. I think I have heard that the J&D Hite is patterned after the Premier or visa versa. The y feel the same. However, the Hite plays better. I keep the plastic one on my A clarinet. I have been meaning to buy a second Hite. (Sure, I could use a single mouthpiece, but I use a velcro ligature, which slops around a little when you pull the mpc to change horns.)
