What kind of glue can I use to put a cork back on a key? It came off quite some time ago and the woman who is supposed to fix instruments at my college (who has access to the "box", etc.) still hasn't come up w/ the chance to over the past THREE months and it's driving me crazy by making a little clicking sound every time I press the key. :-P Can I use Elmer's or some super glue? I don't want to do any damage to my keys.

Lindsey -
You can get a tube of contact cement in any hardware store for maybe $2.00. Get the smallest tube of contact cement available. It dries out after you open it.
Scrape the old adhesive off the key and sand the adhesive side of the cork very lightly to clean it off.
Then put a thin layer of the cement on both the cork and the key surfaces, let it dry and then very carefully put them together. Once the surfaces touch, you can't move them.
A trick is to put the cork adhesive side down on a slip of paper, leaving a tiny bit of the cork hanging over the edge. Line that up, tap it against the key metal, slide the paper out and press the cork against the key.
By the way, Super Glue works faster and just as well.

Try "Shoe Goo" or just plain rubber cement.

bj....I assumed she was talking about cork pads on the underside of the key "lever" i.e. "bumpers". At first I thought she was talking about cork pads for closing holes but then decided she wouldn't continue playing without a cork pad there....but who knows! I have never actually put rubber cement on any clarinet key where it might cause cosmetic problems.....so "I don't know" if it will discolor silver.....or nickel.
