Hi everybody, I am thinking of getting a new ligature and I was wondering which was better:
1) Eddie Daniels Rovner or
2) Vandoren Optimum
I use a Vandoren B45 mouthpiece and Vandoren V12 3.5 reeds/Zonda Supreme 3.5 reeds and I play on a Buffet R13 clarinet. Which ligature would suit my setup best?
Or does anyone have any other suggestions for good ligatures?

I am happy with my BG Super Relevation, at least compared to the Rovner dark I had before. Would like to know what others think of it.

Try a Bonade (inverted).
It'll save you twenty bucks and it will perform just as well (if not better).
Of course, as with all things instrumental, whatever sounds the best for you is what you should use!

You can look in the archives and do a search on ligatures. That will keep you busy for a while, as there have been many discussions on the subject. To answer your question- whatever works best for you. You can get a variety on trial and figure out what you like.

I have a B45 m/p and use alternatively a BG super revelation (and when I put the cover on it, my horn looks like Darth Vader! Don't you think Rene?) and a Vandoren Optimum, the BG gives you a brighter sound, ideal for clarion type of solo music, while the Vandoren is smoother although you can change the color of the sound with the 3 different plaques that come with the ligature.
But as the others said, the best one is the one that will accomodate the sound that you want whatever clarinet-m/p combination you're playing.

I go along with Ed. To each his own. Don't overlook Peter Spriggs Floating Rail.

It's such a subjective thing -- ligatures, mouthpieces, reeds...
I've played on a wide variety and really like my original Bonade inverted from the early 80's. Recently, I tried one of the Rovners and enjoy the assistance it provides in darkening my sound somewhat.
I found that as a student player in hs and college, I became "wrapped up" in the equipment lists of all my fellow players and the "must haves" and "the names." Don't do that! Your instrument is as unique as you are. Try a few and experiment. Good luck!

I have an optimum, which works great for me, although I dropped mine like the twit I am and it seems a little bent, not bad enough to make any difference but it was only a drop of a couple foot, but any higher and I think it would have been much worse. So, it is a little vunerable due to its weight when dropped, but its weight is what I like about it.

Like Kelly said, it's a very subjective thing, and no one here can tell you which of the two is "better." I have been using the Eddie Daniels 2 for almost a year and during this time I also experimented with the Optimum. For me it was an easy choice between the two, but your choice may be different.
