I've been trying different mouthpieces again (someone tell me to stop)
Some are marked with the tip opening in thousandths of an inch, (my current favourite says 49) some in millimetres. (all the Vandoren are metric)
Can anyone give me a conversion table so I know approximately to expect in comparison.

1mm=39 thousandths of an inch
49 thousandths of an inch = 1.245 mm

In engineering, we have many conversion factors [books of them]. The one which has stuck in my memory [best] is that a meter [1000 mm] = 39.37 inches, therefor dividing 1000 by 39.37 gives you the figure of 25.4 mm per inch .With that you can easily convert metric to "imperial" [English] and vice/versa. I prefer metrics for clarinet bore measurements, I guess I find my Selmer's bore diameter of 15 mm [.590"] easier to recall!! Try it on your calculator. Don

15mm seems vry large!
http://www.selmer.com/htdox/clar4.htm
Present Selmer has the maximam bore size 0.575"=14.6mm.
This is rounded to 15 mm but the 3rd digit matters.

Hiroshi - You are right re: modern Selmers, mine are two 50's models CT's, and I measured them with a caliper. My LeBlanc L7 is about 14.8 mm. Don
