I'm just wondering because of its high price..

Has to be a typo. Typically these are going for between $900.00 and 1,500.00 used. They're great jazz horns, but I don't want to take out a second mortgage to pay for a clarinet!

Take a look at the bid history. I think that the two in competition for the clarinet do not have any bid history or identification. It appears that they may be bidding on the clarinet as a "joke".

I guessing you won't be buying a contrabass in the near future?

Diz:

Definitely no contrabass in my future! I've got an old matched pair of Leblanc Dynamiques with original Stowell, Wells, Schneider mouthpieces that do me just fine!

I'm not really sure what you mean. I went to that website, and it says its only $710. Maybe I read wrong.

Just looked t this clarinet myself--current bid was $710.00 US dollars. Expect this instrument to bring a higher price, but the person who buys it should not expect to play it and immediately sound like Pete. In an interview, he stated that his "sound" on his recordings, is the result of "the greatest sound engineer in the world." Even his sound in person is engineered as he always plays into a microphone. But, Pete's sound has always been very "LeBlanc" (even on the old LW TV shows) and playing a LeBlanc, such as this model, may get you closer. Like others have stated, these clarinets are great jazz instruments, so if your aspirations are for orchestral playing, this may not be a logical purchase for you. Nice looking instrument, however, and probably worth the $$s if your forte is jazz. Good Clarineting!!!!!!!!

To [sorta-of] add to the Metric-Imp. thread above, I believe the "somewhat-different" sound from the P F horns is due to the [slightly] larger diameter [cylindrical] bore size of 15.0 mm [.590"] . For those who may not know, LeBlanc made a number of cls with this same bore, I know of the Dynamics 2 and H and there are likely more, so look in LeB's ads, they usually give sizes. My guess is that except for keying additions from the "standard" 17/6 to 18/7 [fork Eb/Bb and artic. C#/G#] the major diff. is P F's signature [and gold plating at higher cost] !! Don

Just took another look and noticed that the barrel rings appear to be silver, suggesting that this is not original LeBlanc issue equipement. The buyer could have the rings gold plated also (for asthetic appeal) but that would be an added expense. Still seems like a good buy, however--unless the bidding goes, somehow, "balistic" in the remaining days. Good Clarineting (Pete's way)
