Hi All,
In playing Gershwin's Summertime, there is in the beginning a spot where you go from mid C to mid A back and forth twice. It's 4 quarternotes beamed together and what I need to know is how to play them without it sounding choppy while playing. I do great everywhere else except that area. Any ideas how to polish it up ?

Try keeping your right hand fingers in place (fingered C position) while you play the A's. Also, I always "vent" my A and Bb--Like this: A with l-h 0XX and left little finger B key; Bb with l-h 0XX and left little finger B. But that takes a lot of practice to get used to--the first suggestion may solve your big problem for now. Good Clarineting!!!!!!!

Play them at a speed where they sound smooth (probably very slow). Then speed up a little bit at a time, making sure that it is just as smooth as when you started doing this before you move on to the next tempo. The most important thing is to not rush, or speed up too much at once. Take your time to make everything as smooth as possible.
