I don't know why!!!I'm an 8th grader, I play in the band in my school and in a high school nearby. I'm the top player in my band and "almost top player" in the high school band. And I play like for 1 1/2. Well anyways, I've got two auditions ( for youth orchestras) One in February 5 and one at the end on August. I don't have stage fright(I'm actually very comfortable when I play solos at my church)And I don't know why, but I'm really scared!!!!!!!!!!! Did you ever feel the same way??? What should I do???? Help?!?!??

Expect to be nervous. If you hold back your nerves, then you will make things worse. Practice as much as you usually would prior to an audition or performance. It is this practice that will give you confidence through your audition. Remember that the adjudicator's are on your side. They want to hear you do well. Also, there is nothing against you by playing the best you can!
Good luck,
Kim L.

everyone gets the jitters! You're just worried you won't do as well as you want. Well, throw that thought away! My advice is to use the energy that you're using to be nervous, and put it into your playing so that you can concentrate. When you concentrate on your playing, you can't htink about the judges (who like Kim L. said are on your side), messing up, other players, or anything that's unexpected.
You'll do fine. You sound like you practice, and can handle yourself in nervous situations. Treat this the same way. Good luck! Let us know how you do.

Concentrate on playing your best and don't let anything distract you. Think of doing your personal best, don't worry about how good your competition is (it'll just make you feel more nervous).
I know, I just had a fairly nerve-wracking concerto competition, I played the Mozart memorized and I made the stupidest memory mistakes because I was so nervous.

I be interested to hear how you go in your auditions. They can be very stressful. Just remember, if you play poorly (and I'm hopping this won't be the case) and do a bad audition, it's not the end of the world ... there will always be more auditions around the corner. Best of luck to you - diz (in Sydney, oz)

I think that you just need to go into auditions with the attitude that you don't really care what they think about your playing. You're going to play the pieces how you play them and worrying about what they think can only hurt you. It's all right after the fact to look at their comments and maybe make adjustments for your next audition, of course it may also be better to leave this up to your private teacher. You won't necessarily have the same person next time. I should say that I never really got very stressed about auditions, but I saw what they could do to otherwise competent musicians. I say do the best you can and afterwards treat yourself to an ice cream or something. Oh well, I guess that's easy for me to say. Good luck.
