I just bought a Robert Marcellus and a Steel Ebonite G7 mouthpiece at half price today. I really enjoy how they play (especially the Marcellus) and was just wondering what others thougts were on these. They are both made by the Woodwind co. by LeBlanc.

Can I respectfully recommend you "do a search" on this bulletin board for listings on people's ideas about mouthpieces ... I'm a new "sneezer" and has seen many comments in the recent past.
Mark - I love the search feature, it's great.

It's too slow unfortunately. I really need to get the Sneezy machines upgraded and located in a faster place.
Unfortunately it's going to cost me a great deal of money to do so, so I'm delaying. The current machinery is very reliable but old and relatively slow.

I have a Marcellus M13 by Woodwind. It is all right, but my teacher thinks that I could find a better one. It might be just that mouthpiece though.

Diz, if we always do search without posting questions, are we not going to become stuck with antiquated, unchanging information? I think one of the nice features of this "Phorum" is the willingness of people to contribute an opinion. There may well be players who have more recently acquired a Marcellus mpc, and are willing to share their experience. All you need to do is ignore the thread and allow others the freedom to be inquisitive. Karel.

Not really (the board ain't an anteek anywhose). Doing a search is like looking for information in an encyclopaedia - you get a good feel for what's been answered, and a good feel for what hasn't.
And even perhaps a very good answer already formulated.
And, in any case, going through those old threads can bring about a wealth of knowledge aboiut areas that weren't related to your question (or didn't seem to be). Like the reference to eingange in a question about a cadenza in Mozart (there are no cadenzas called for in that particular work, even if you see some printed).

Before we get too off topic lets get back to the origonal discussion about the Robet Marcellus mouthpiece. A litle backgroung and opinions on the mouthpiece and that of the WW G7 would be greatly appreciated.

Joe...One of my students plays on a Marcellus mouthpiece.
As a frame of reference, the Marcellus mouthpiece is faced in either M08 (which is about equivalent to a Vandoren B44) and M13 (which is about equivalent to a Vandoren B45).
When testing them a few years ago, as a possible mouthpiece for my students, I found a very wide variety of consistancy in the facings. Some were almost impossible to play. Out of about 12, I found one that was acceptable. Unfortunately, with any machine made mouthpiece (Vandoren as well) this frequently is the case as well.
If you've found one to your liking, enjoy it.(the price was certainly right) I haven't found many I'd let my students use.
If a student wants to spend about $70 for a mouthpiece, I have them try a Fobes Nova. I have found these to be consistant, and of high quality...GBK

Mark, I did not mean that search should be avoided. The point I tried to make is that in spite of search, a poster may want a fresh opinion. If members think the question frivolous they can ignore it, but I think it a little unnecessarily unkind to slap a questioner down with a comment "don't bother me, go to search". To go back to "mother's advice" - "if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing".

Yes. The Marcellus model I tried had a so unsymmetrical tip shape that I could not match the reed shape to that. Another thing is that somewhat it lacked in sufficient deepness of tone, provably because of blank material. Now we have many good hand made mouthpieces made of Zinner blanks.
