Are there any published cadenzas for the Mozart Concerto (other than Baermann's)?

The "Clarinet" magazine had three interesting articles by Colin Lawson on published cadenzas for the Mozart Concerto.

Volume 8/4 (Summer 1981) Cadenzas by Busoni for the Mozart Concerto

Volume 9/1 (Fall 1981) Cadenzas by Ibert for the Mozart Concerto

Volume 9/2 (Winter 1982) Cadenzas by Kritcka for the Mozart Concerto

The one by the Czech clarinetist Kritcka (1887-1969), especially, has to be seen to be believed. All three of these cadenzas give a rare insight into performance practice of the day. Very different approaches...GBK

The Southern edition of the Mozart has five or six different cadenzas for the second movement. I've always used the standard one from the Quintet. Unfortunately, the composers' names aren't listed...

Hi Suzanne,

For a somewhat different take on your question, search the bulletin board for "eingang" without the quotes to see what Mozart really called for and what would be consistent with performance practices of his period.

Best regards,
jnk

In addition to the published cadenzas, there always exists the opportunity to improvise--make up or compose--your own cadenza and experiance the joy of creativity, rather than just play someones elses (in this case, Mozarts) musical ideas. For the classical clarinetist, who also plays jazz, this should be a natural--although it would be good to avoid to much BeeBop. Good Clarineting!!!!!!

William - couldn't agree more ... when I was a student, my teacher's would always make me "compose" my own cadenzas, some were good, some were shocking.
