There is a whole tradition of playing folk music on clarinet, just not in the United States. In Eastern Europe, clarinet is a folk instrument. Some of the wildest clarinet playing comes from Macedonia, Albania, Bulgaria. Klezmer is but a subset of this music, the most commonly known, associated with Eastern European Jewish cultures.
