Hi pple,
I'm a intermediate clarinetist living in Singapore. Here, there's not much variety of clarinet mouthpieces, only have some Vandoren and Morgan mouthpieces. I'm very interested in all those mouthpieces that most of your are talking about (Clark fobes, greg smith, hawkins, hite, pyne...etc), but I couldn't get the chance to go overseas to try them out. The only way is to special import them to Singapore and I find it rather expensive. I have a few questions about these mouthpieces and hope that those who are experieced with them, please give me some advices.
1) Is there any significant differences between B45 & B40. Which one is better for larger sound and projection? (I'm very particular about projection).
2)I read about Roger Garrett mouthpieces but I couldn't find any online info on these mouthpieces. May I know whether these mouthpieces have a beak similar to "Vandoren profile 88" or it has a traditional beak? And Roger Garrett mouthpieces come in 3 different models ( K, D and DL), may I know which model has a darker voicing, with ease of blowing and Projection?
3) Recently, I bought a Woodwind company "Legend" A10 mouthpieces and Pyne polycrystal mouthpiece. I try using V12 size 3 and 3 1/2 and they seems that they cannot work very well on these 2 mouthpieces. What are the recommended reed strength for these 2 mouthpieces? I have not read any info about these mouthpieces and just blindly try them out.

Hey, Andy!
I can answer some of your questions. When I played the B45 and B40 on V-12 3 1/2's, I found the B40 to be more open than the B45 which was more responsive. Neither mouthpiece satisfied me though. You may find these to play differently for you, though.
I don't know anything about the other mouthpieces.
Good luck,
Kim L.

The only information I found on Roger Garrett mouthpieces on the web was his email address that can be found at

I've played several of the Woodwind Legend A10s and find the Vandoren V12 strength 3 1/2 works best. If you're used to a harder reed, you might go up to a 4. Remember, the V12 is a cut different than standard and the 3 1/2 is like a standard 4.
