I have just come into possesion of a wooden bodied clarinet with the name "Bufon" engraved into it. I cannot see any other ID marks - can anyone throw any light on manufacturer etc ??
Thanks

Um, maybe the product of an illicit union between a BUFfet and a CouesnON?
Just kidding, sorry --- no clue, never heard of a Bufon over here.

Dave, this may be a lot more than just the "Dance of the Sugar Plum Faries."

Adrian,
Perhaps the writing says "Buisson" or "Busson". I forget the exact spelling, but I believe there was an old French Instrument Maker with this name.

Small world. The guy who is selling the Buffet clarinet Rene asked the board about just sold a Bufon. No real information given about it and a fairly small picture. It went for a little over 60 Euros. You might try sending an e-mail to the seller. Tell him you saw he had sold one and ask if he knows anything about the company. It's a longshot but what the heck.
Best regards,
jnk
