Seeing what I have here, I still want to major in music, and I want to do it all the way to the top - a Ph D. First things first, I want a bachelors in Education and a Masters and Doctarate in Performance. Where should I go, who should I look for in terms of private teachers? I will do anything to be in an orchestra or band, I don't care about how little they pay you, I can deal with it. Ummm... I would like to have to options, the really expensive one and the not as really expensive one. If you need any more information, just ask. Thanks!

what kind of school are you wanting to go to? Small? medium? large?
I would suggest studying w/ a teacher who is currently in a symphony orchestra so that they are already in the loop of things.
could you clarify "I would like to have to options, the really expensive one and the not as really expensive one. " What are you talking about? Schools? clarinets?
Good luck!

I already have the R-13. I was talking about schools, so that I wouldn't neccessarily have to either break my piggy bank or get a job...some schools can top 30,000 a year. And I don't really care how big it is or where it is, just as long as it is a good school. There are some limits, though...USC is not an option, my parents are not going to let me live in the slums of LA. Thanks!

well...for money, i'd suggest looking into scholarships around your area. Also, in any school you apply to, there is an option to apply for finacial aid, so definately fill that part of the application out. There are a TON of great music schools all over the country. Ask your teacher or band director where they went to school, and possibly, if you have a favorite pro clarinetist that you always listen to, check out if they teach anywhere...maybe you'll be able to study with them! I am currently a student at Duquesne University here in Pittsburgh and i study with Michael Rusinek, whos the principal player in the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Great teacher, but a small school. I'm pretty happy here though.
Just look and ask around. I'm sure you'll find a lot of information, and everyone will be wanting to convince you to go to their school! Good luck and happy hunting!

On of the grad students (MA) in my studio said a couple months ago that when she was debating where to go for her masters....to get each degree in a different part of the country. I dont know where she got her undergrad, but she's in the midwest now... I'm partial to state schools, mainly because they have such big music departments and good professors...(i.e. i go to the U of Iowa).
yes, scholarships, scholarships, SCHOLARSHIPS. especially ones that aren't from the university.. if you rely on grants...trust me, something will happen, and halfway through your first semester, and they'll take back your money, and mail you a bill for 2 grand (like me), and say that if you don't pay it by yesterday, they freeze your board plan, and when you go to the cafeteria to eat...they dont let you (also like me). It can be a sticky situation.......
