Boosey & Hawkes, Buffet's parent company, has been for sale for several months, due to continued losses particularly in the instrument manufacture segment of its business. I do not find anything on the financial wires (Financial Times, BBC) that Buffet has been sold.

How about all of us getting together (finacially) and making B&H an offer??? Well, it was just the first thought that popped into my (often unrealistic) head after a couple of hours of practicing. Continued Good Clarineting, Everyone!!!!!!!

It's very important to keep up with stuff like this, because it helps us to judge whether or not to trust in purchasing instruments made during this time of instability. It sounds, however, like it could be a positive thing (since the stock went up with just a rumor). So, let's keep an eye out and see what happens.

As you saw from the article, the entire Group is up for sale. I know that there were some problems with B&H MI but they are being corrected. The entire instrument division is performing well. Brenda brings up a good point, but I caution you to ignore the rumors and go directly to the companies themselves for acurate information.

I'll have to add that I've purchased several Buffet clarinets this year, both for my own use and for others, and have been tremendously satisfied with all of them. So, I wouldn't shy away from purchasing one right now just because of the "rumour mill." But, it is something to take into consideration for long-term investing purposes.

An update:
According to the Daily Mail of Sunday, December 23, up to 20 potential buyers have registered an interest in Boosey & Hawkes. Total proceeds of the sale of B&H would be expected to exceed £45m.
