On A clarinets, is the alternate D6 always hard to get out? I used to use the Ab key as my alternate, but was told to use the other alternate because that one is really flat. That one always seems stuffy, on both of the clarinets I've tried. Is this normal?

Cindy...The D6 fingering of: TR Ab key ooo / ooo Eb is low in pitch and can be improved by adding the Eb(Bb) right side key.
There are more than a dozen fingerings for D6. Here is a good one (to be used only if the context of the music allows):
R only (no thumb) xxx / xox Eb
This is a good fingering for soft attacks as well as wide leaps. It produces a covered, darker sound...GBK

The alternate i'm talking about is TR and the second trill key down on the side (2 above Eb) I have no idea what that key is called, but I was told to use that trill on Cappriccio Espangol, going from C to D.

An alternate that works for me, in really fast situations, is simply no fingers--overblowing an open second line G. Not a good sound, nor perfectly in tune, but if the notes are quick enough, and it makes a passage playable as opposed to unplayable, it works. BTW, the Ds on my both my R-13 and Concerto A clarinets are very good notes and speak easily. Good Luck!!!!!!

Most (if not all) professional players would never use a fake D for Capriccio. Of course, I'm assuming that you mean the sixteenths in the opening solo. There are a few C to D trills, in which case I would definitely use the 3rd trill key.

Diz...Thanks for the compliment. No, unfortunately...
I do play principal in a semi professional regional orchestra (pay per service), and taught public school on all three levels- elementary, middle school and high school.
Aside from playing and teaching clarinet, I have a great interest in the history of music (as you probably have gleaned from many of my posts)...GBK

I like to do that for times when I'm playing something that needs a VERY VERY VERY smooth transition between lower notes to that. I keep the register key down, though, like Rene said, and it helps it speak more. I believe it's an especially common fingering that bass clarinets use if they don't have a half-hole vent, hough I could be wrong.
