Is Buffet starting to manufacture mouthpieces? I've notices on ebay metal saxophone mouthpieces by Buffet. Mabey they will make nice clarinet mouthpieces to go with their clarinets.

I notice that when a company that manufactures clarinets, they have a small problem with making the perfect accesories for them. Is it a marketing hoax?

The better Buffet bass clarinets, I believe, come with hard-rubber mouthpieces marked "EPE JM" --- these are actually made by ESM (Ernst Schreiber) in Germany, and are pretty good mouthpieces. But I've also seen some of Buffet's plastic soprano clarinet mouthpieces, marked with something like "....125" and they are truly horrible.

Manufacturing mouthpiece is a true art/technique in itself, this is why some companies are specializing into it although they are not clarinet makers (Vandoren, Pomarico, etc.).
Clarinet makers will usually manufacture m/p for their low end models to offer the whole thing in the box to beginners (like Buffet), but they won't spend the money into m/p R&D in order to keep a low cost on the horn. This is why pro clarinet usually come without m/p as the maker concentrate on the quality of the horn itself, and leave the trouble of making m/ps to others. That is to say that m/ps is not a business for clarinet makers because it is not cost effective in today's industry for them.
If you are serious about clarinet, you want to go for your own favourite m/p anyway which can be as important a choice as the clarinet itself.

Many of us would disagree with Don's statement that Selmer mouthpieces are superb. I would opine that their mouthpieces are made from good-quality blanks, and the interior dimensions are pretty good, but the facings are generally awful.

Well, to Don and David, I would say that I usually don't use m/ps from clarinet makers because of the low quality, but if you compare Selmer m/ps to Buffet, Leblanc or Yamaha m/ps, yes there are probably the best among those ones.
