Question- has nothing to do with clarinets
Author: Marco

has anyone heard a recording of Frederic Chopin's "Minute Waltz" that is actually just a minute long (unlike the 1:50 version that I have)?

Just wondering,
Marco

The "Minute Waltz" refers to size (adj. - mI-'nüt) not time (noun - 'mi-n&t) - if someone plays it in a minute it's about twice as fats as it should actually be.

Mark is correct. The confusion of Opus 64 No.1 comes from the mispronunciation
and misinterpretation by the English translation of "minute" (miniature)

The waltz is only 140 measures, and should be played at a lively tempo. It should take close to two minutes to perform...GBK

It's still a fun challenge, though. "Bowser" (of Sha-Na-Na fame) can do it in a minute, but I don't know of anyone who could waltz to it. <g>

Some small paart of the confusion could be attributed to a wonderful Victor Borge skit that he did some years ago in a TV "interview" of him impersonating Haydn. At one point he was asked how he timed his eggs in the morning. His response was to "put them in boiling waater, play the Chopin minute Waltz three times, and take them out". I saw this on PBS sometime this past year and and thoroughly enjoyed. Chuck
