Coming up in April I'm scheduled to perform my senior full recital (i'm a music ed and performance double degree). I really would like to have some sort of chamber piece. I performed Shepherd on the Rock last yr. so I can't do that. Most pieces with viola, clarinet, and piano instrumentation are out b/c we don't have a violist that can handle the parts. Anyone have any suggestions?

Mandy...Did you check the Sneezy database under "Compositions" ?
There are approximately 7000 works listed. There are numerous works for different combinations of instruments and/or voice if so desired.
If you have an idea as to which instrumentalists might be available to you for your recital - and who "can handle the parts" (your words), this might be a good place to start looking.
It is difficult to recommend a specific piece, not knowing which instrumentalists you have at your disposal...GBK

Yes, look in the database it is well worthwhile. These are just some of the most well known chamber works for clarinet.
Beethoven, Brahms trios (clarinet, cello & piano)
Brahms, Mozart, Weber quintets

I just did the Weber Quintet on my recital and it was a lot of fun!! I'm in love with that piece There are a lot of good clarinet cello piano pieces out there. My good friend (a flute player) and I are doing the Muczynski Duos for Flute and Clarinet on her recital this spring, and they are a lot of fun-I am excited for that. You could do a woodwind quintet piece too, there are a lot of good pieces for that ensemble. I would check the database though, I'm just posting because I can't sleep because I have a horrible cold Good luck on your recital and have fun!!!!!

For my senior recital, one of the works I chose was the Poulenc Sextoure (spl-??) for woodwind quintet and piano--a marvelous work, fun to play with a great french horn part!!! There are, of course, lots of others, but this has always remained as one of my personal favs. Good luck with your recital.

If you can get a decent violinist, there are some good pieces for piano clarinet and violin.
I'm performing the Hans Gal trio and possibly the Milhaud Suite in April. There's also the Khachaturian trio, that i looked at, but didn't like as much as the Gal.
For clarinet and Cello, i love the Brahms trio.
If you can afford a string quartet, then the Mozart isn't too terribly difficult for anyone and is quite lovely.
Another idea would be to do some things for flute clarinet and piano. Mike Webster at Rice University does alot of transcriptions as he and his wife along with a pianist (that changes every now and then) form a regular trio. Several of his transcriptions have been published and are alot of fun to play.

Stravinsky, L'histoire d'un soldat (The Story of a Soldier [trio version])
Bartok, Contrasts
Don't forget the Brahms Quintet if you know a really good string quartet with a dark sound- it's one of the greatest clarinet chamber works (and my personal favorite). I have a CD of the Mozart Kegelstatt trio with a cellist instead of a viola- if you're viola-deprived and really like this piece, it could work.
Look at the back of Jack Brymer's book The Clarinet. It has a section listing chamber music with short descriptions.

As a professional viola player (and clarinetist) - I would disagree on your "not too terribly difficult" comment. The string parts in this work are VERY taxing - not only technically but in order to blend and play Mozart well. The First Violin part, in particular is fiendish and requires a virtuoso performer, especially in the last movement. I've played both the clarinet and viola parts - both are equally taxing, but for very different reasons.
