I'm also a fan of G.Smith's mouthpieces. My new Symphonie VII sounds absolutely fabulous on Greg's grenadilla wood mouthpiece! And, I use the G.Smith Kaspar Chicago model on my Buffet R-13 Greenline! Smooth! He's got the touch.

Be careful when you excise it!

I had my heart set on one of his Kaspars, but the Ched 1+ was the clear winner for me. Did wonders for my altissimo. Control . . . focus . . . all those good words.

Gregory Smith is a wonderful person and will interview you and send several mouthpieces that he feels fit your situation. I am a great fan of his Kaspars but also have a beauty which plays superbly by Clark Fobes. Mouthpieces are very individual pieces and what works well for one person does not for another. All of the Sneezy (only have tried these makers - others are probably great too) makers have had many years experience and are true professional players that have refined their own designs and modifications to an art. Mouthpieces (as well as the perfect reed) are the holy grail which many of us will never capture - we keep trying though!

I have three (2 Bb and 1 Eb). I've been very happy with them.

I have a Cicero Kasper that I would not take a million dollars for.

I have a Greg Smith Kasper clarinet mouthpiece and a Parke Hagstrom trumpet mouthpiece too. Both belong to CSO. I think late Jacob made a tuba mouthpiece too. So many good mouthpiece makers from CSO wind/brass section.

H--

I play with a former CSO tubist and I will ask him at next rehearsal about Arnolds tuba mpcs. Good Clarineting, however.

William wrote "I play with a former CSO tubist..."

Are you quite sure of this, William? To the best of my knowledge, Arnold Jacobs was the Principal (and only) Tuba of the CSO from 1944 until he retired in 1988. Gene Pokorny has been in that position there ever since.

If you're playing with a former CSO tubist, perhaps he or she must be either very elderly...or an imposter!

Good point, Larry! There are lots of imposters out there! Let's keep 'em honest when we can!
