well vintage mouthpiece lovers, how high will this kanter go??

Always interesting to see these on ebay, but honestly is it really worth $670+ for a mouthpiece? Don't want to start another mouthpiece discussion, but why would anyone sell a "good one".....................

I don't know about the Kanter, but I've sold Kaspars on eBay for $550.00 before. They were good ones, but I bought them to resell them and made $50.00 to $100.00 on them. Once I sold my personal Kaspar Cicero 13 when I needed some "quick cash." So, there's all kinds of reasons someone might sell a "good one."

I still don;t understand why anyone would ever pay 650USD for a mouthpiece. That's just not worth it.
If you take your time choosing a good one you can get an of the shelf mouthpiece for less than a 100 bucks that will play just fine. If you need it tweeked a good refacer will charge you 50$. I don't think paying 5x times this price will give a 5x better sound.
Some people should stop bidding and go practice...

I have no problem with what other people like. I've found nice playing mpcs in the 'junkpile' for less than five US/dollars. They may not look so hot but, really, they play fine for me. That's me. I'm a not too fussy tightwad. We all have personal reasons for buying things or not buying things.
Had a Model A (Ford) that I sold for an almost giveaway price a long time ago. It was old and needed some fixin' and I didn't want to bother with it. That was then. Know what they get for 'em today? A pretty penny... because some people love 'em, they're fun to ride around in and you can't buy new ones.

OK I have to ask....I have a Kanter mouthpiece that I love. But how do I know if it's made from a CHEDEVILLE Blank? I'm not familiar with the varieties of mouthpieces he made. Does anyone know?

When I was growing up in NY, in the early to middle 1960's, a 1957 Chevy Bel Air was $50.00. We had no respect at all for them and bought them to burn them out and abandon them.
We never changed the oil or filter and rarely put water in them before they overheated and quit running. Let me tell you, they could take one heck of a beating!!
When they burned out, we pushed them off to the side of the road, took our license plates off and caught the subway or bus to get home. Never saw them again. If I went through one, I went through a dozen, or more.
Did the same to other $50.00 cars. I recently saw a 1957 Chevy Bel Air, in near mint condition, go at auction for $80,000.00, U.S. funds.
I related this story a friend a couplke of days ago and he told me, "You know, you deserve to have to work for a living!"
Oh, well! To each his own! If you have $970.00 to throw away, why not?

Right, you are! I, too, remember those times. We treated cars like we do lawnmowers and VCRs today, throw-away commodities. If it gave out, we'd chuck it and find another one. Proportionately, however, they were much cheaper than today :| And, almost anyone could fix a car then if they felt inclined to.
Air pollution and gas mileage were minor concerns. I don't remember anyone tossing a decent horn though... seems like they were comparitively expensive but not as much as now. I sold a Conn soprano sax for thirty-five (US)dollars 'cause it had a couple of minor leaks. Oh, what a time we had /////|||

That's the highest I've seen a mouthpiece go for. Did anyone ever see a mouthpiece go for more? I wonder, I'm playing a $65 B45 profile 88 mouthpiece and sound good on it. I'd sound nearly 15 times better on this one (lol). I do plan on buying a Greg Smith when I get the money but do I ever wish I owned a Kantar, then I could sell it and buy many almost five Greg Smith's.
Well, mabey a clear B-12 will go up on ebay so we can track the bidding wars on that.
