ten sharps.

Just kidding. Actually it'd be two flats. Three sharps transposes to the key of Amaj/F#min, correct? You either...
1. Add seven sharps to the key
2. Add five flats to the key
3. Bounce everything up a half-step because that's what you're doing with all those sharps and flats anyway.

Now you're playing in Bbmaj/Gmin, which would be... two flats.

Easy as 3.141592654...

The A clarinet is a minor third above an instrument in C. So what you would have is the "Lullaby" theme, or C to Eb. It can't be D# because that's an augmented second.

Good luck,

Kim L., yes you are correct in theory terms saying that a D# is an augmented second and not a minor third, but in terms of playing the notes, it sounds a minor third and it would be transposed to the right pitch. Some people think easier in sharps and some people think more naturally in flats. As longs as it sounds correct it doesn't really matter.

Yes it does matter as you need to get the key signature correct if you are going to easily play the piece or write it out for your use or the use of other people.

On A Clarinet you must transpose UP a minor 3rd to the key of C.

FT: add three flats...if you're in the key of C you'd be playing in the key of Eb on the A

Another thing to do when transposing to to look at the key signature BEFORE looking at the actual notes. If it is in C major then you would play it in Eb major when playing an A clarinet.
