I need to order new copies of the Brahms sonatas and would appreciate
recommendations on editions.
Thanks,
Dan

Hi Dan! How's it going?
For the Brahms Sonatas, Weiner Urtext edition is outstanding and impeccable in terms of research. I believe this is a Schott product, but I am not sure. The covers used to be bright red, in any case. Eble music will know this edition, as will any reputable music store.
For the quintet, Henle is a beautifully printed edition with well a thought out page arrangement, for what that is worth.

The above mentioned edition is called "Wiener Urtext Edition" and is published by Schott/Universal Edition. (UT 50015: f minor and UT 50016: e flat minor) The cover is still red and I would buy it again if i had to.

In complement to this you can get the H. Wright edition at Southern Music.
They have all the marking of H. Wright and some of them are very insightful.
There is also a compilation of all the standard chamber music he played also at Southern Music.
I would not get this as your only edition, but it is of great musical value.

I only ever buy "urtext" editions ... personal choice. They are devoid of editiorial improvments, etc.
