 Purchase new joint?
Author: Diana

Hi- I recently told you about my cracked upper joint and how i am not having to pay for the damage. I know that Boosey and Hawkes can replace a joint that is 1 year old and cracked, is it possible to purchase a top joint instead of having to buy an entire new clarinet? just wondering, thanks.

I had the unfourtunate experience of my clarinet cracking just two months ago. Foutunately it was small and an amazing clarinet technician lives two hours away, Peter Spriggs. It was easily repaired and only cost about $50 canadian. First determine the degree of the crack. Is it right through to the bore? Depending on how big the crack is a good repair person could probably fix it no sweat. There are also ways to replace diferent joints through dealers and the companies.

Yes, you should be able to purchase just a top joint. You'll probably have to go to a dealer for this and have them special order it. Afterall if it were still under warranty, the company would simply send a new top joint.

<br>All the keys from the old joint will have to be transferred, and the new joint repadded. Since the keys have to be individually fitted to the new clarinet (along with re-setting the springs) and the re-pad, it's best left to a repair tech. The new joint can also be set to have the same serial number as the other joint.
