 Intonation question

Yesterday, I tried out a Morgan Protone mpc at a store where the only clarinet available was a YCL20. I took along my Korg meter to measure how notes varied from one to the other. While I was there I decided to try something different. What I discovered puzzles me. I've read where the proper postion of the tongue is in an arched position for a narrower, more forceful stream. I've also read that playing in this manner makes a difference in the pitch. What I noticed was it didn't really matter if my tongue was in an arched position or whether it was wide open (sort of like an imaginary egg in the throat)...the needle didn't move!!! I was rather suprised and tried this several times on different notes. Same results. The only way the needle would move towards dead center was when I put a lot of lip pressure on the reed. Can anyone explain to me why the position of the tongue had no affect on my meter? Thank you and Happy Holidays to one and all!!

The arched tongue accelorates and steadies the air stream for a more focused and steadied sound. This facilitates better response and a more characteristic orchestral sound quality. An arched tongue will have no effect on pitch without an accompaning tightening of other factors in the embouchure. The greatest influences on pitch remain the length of the clarinet, the chamber of the mouthpiece and the condition of he reed. Good Clarineting!!!!!
