Any pop arrangement for clarinet quintet
Author: Cyril
Date:   2001-12-15 09:26

I am fortunate in having access to a string quartet and I bribe them to play the Mozart Clarinet Quintet with me. There are other classical clarinet quintets, but I would like to find some popular or jazz arrangement for our occasional combo. Any ideas? Any source?

In your place I'd likely buy arrangements for clarinet and piano, perhaps a (classical) pop collection and take this as a
startpoint to build my own arrangements for the quintet.

But why pop? How about hard rock ?-)

The string players and myself are senior citizens, hence my choice of familiar oldies and not hard rock! I don't have the talent to arrange piano scores myself. Would you do some for us? ;-)

Check out some of the music listings for brass quintets etc. Arrangers seem to favor them when it comes to the "old standards". You just have to do some transposing. One of my favorites was "Sweet Georgia Brown", originally written for a string quintet. We did it with a flute, clarinet, alto clar., bass clar., and contra alto.

Lennie Niehaus does nice jazz tunes - they are originals tho - and they are laid out like a sax section for a jazz band. Very nice stuff.

No your message was useful. I was also looking for pop (or jazz arrangements) for a combination of clarinets and saxophones. Where do I find the works for Lennie Niehaus?
