anna...Resonance fingerings are the fingerings used (there are numerous ones) to improve the tone and response of the throat tones Ab, A and Bb.

The reason for them is the fact that these notes use so little of the entire clarinet "tube" to sound, that most players find it necessary to close some additional hoes or open some additional vent keys to improve their resonance.

The actual resonance fingerings which work for your set up will take a little trial and error, and of course will always be in relation to the other notes of any particular passage as for fingering ease and tonal matching.

If you need some resonance fingerings. I, or many other contributors will be happy to help...GBK

As GBK noted, there is trial and error involved. Basically just play around with different suggestions you get, and see what works best.

open G :

Some people put all three fingers(index, middle, and ring)

OOO-XXX

I prefer, left hand ring finger, along with the index, and ring finger

OOX-XOX

anna...Here are a few resonance fingerings - there are others:

Ab: Ab key oox / xoo (or) Ab key oox / xxo C#(F#)

A: A key oxx / oxx C(F) (or) A key oox / xxo C(F)

Bb: R + A key oox / oox C(F) (or) R + A key oxx / oxx

Try them all and see which work the best on your set up - but use them only when technically possible and tonally matching in the particular passage...GBK

If you are interested in alternative fingerings, Tom Ridenour's book is a good one to read. One of the Sponcers deals his book. Interestingly, he recommends to half close the top side key hole with a kind of filler to improve throat tones, I remember.

This seems to be a matter of the particular clarinet, since Carmen's method for A does not work at all on mine. Closing first or second right finger obscures this tone. But the 0xx000 works fine. The 0xx0xx fingering mentioned here works surprisingly well for the Bb. The tone is completely changed. For G on the other hand, I cannot close any of the left hand fingers, and have to use 000xx0. It is a bit awkward to go from G with 000xx0 to A with 0xx000, so I do not use this in fast passages and play the G open.

For throat Bb I use the A key and the side trill key whenever possible. When it isn't, I use a fingering I learned a few years ago, probably from the klarinet list. It is:

R + T oxx C# key/ooo

I find this works better than any of the others I had used for years and has the advantage that it is all in one hand. I play an R-13 from 1996.

Gary...yes, that is also a very good resonance fingering.

I sometimes even use it with the side trill key Bb, as it slightly raises the pitch and provides an even more focused side Bb.

Thus: R + side #2 oxx C# / ooo ...GBK

The best fingering can vary from day to day. Reeds vary and that can effect the pitch. A new mp can change things alsol The bottom line is experiment until you find something that works and do be afraid to try variances from time to time.
