I would like to buy a Buffet B-12, at a local store a man is offering me one for $476.25, or Selmer CL301 for $513.75, or a Vito 7212 for $480.00. These are all new instruments, How do the prices look?

I think that is over priced for instruments at that level. I think they usually go for about $300-$350 new. You can find them used on ebay for less than that.
At that price you are getting real close to being able to afford a step-up clarinet.
Check out some of the online place. woodwindbrasswind.com or intlmusicsuppliers.com unfortunately neither one publishes the prices on the web or in the catalog. So give them a call and see what they have to say on price.

The B12 will actually set you back 350-375 last I bought one (last Oct.), but still significantly less than what you've been offered.

I bought my B-12 last summer for $150 new from Chuck Levin.. shop around the internet.. its a great horn. I use it for marching band. I find the key action similar enough to my R-13 that its comfortable enough to play on. Blake

I bought a B-12 for marching band in college and it's a great horn. One for being plastic and two for being a student line horn. It plays well in tune and plays easily if iut is sealing well and is in adjustment. $350-375 is about right for the price. Then again I bought mine from Muncy Winds in North Carolina. It's going to be cheaper form some mail order place(although Muncy never game me the impression of a large mail order center) then if you buy the horn from a local music store. $476 sounds about $100 to high. Yeah they list for more, but still the price is about one hundred too high. I'd try barganing with him and try to get the price down.
good luck

I'm bidding on a new Leblanc Esprit on eBay right now that is at $450.00 without a reserve. It's item #1497192118 (sorry I couldn't get my computer to copy the whole address to do a click), just go to eBay and click on search by item no.
I'm sure there will be others bidding on it, but it is a great instrument and retails for about $1,998.00 and wholesales for about $1,250.00. The dealer has lots of positive feedback (although I've never personally done business with him before).
The Esprit is one of the best upper-level intermediate-entry-level pro clarinets around and I recommend them all the time for serious students.
But the Buffet B-12 and others mentioned above are student level instruments and can be had for below $300.00 all the time on eBay and with some of the sellers on the Sneezy bulletin board. It's pretty good for a plastic clarinet.
