hi-
on my clarinet, the keys on the smaller joint < the one on the bottom , that you use your right hand to finger with > it always falls apart, i tighten my screws all the time, but i can never get it to stay in place! Today in band, it fell apart again, while playing "The curse of the Tutahomkani" < i do not know how to spell that, sorry > and right on the scary part with the deeeep low notes, POOF there goes my keys, and of course the clarinet section were confused on my odd playing < i play on first clarinet music> BUT anywho........anyone have any suggestions?

Souonds like to me that the pivot screw on the lj ring keys backs out far enough for the spring tension to make the key fall off. Get some Loctite 222 and put a small amount on the offending pivot screws and then reinstall the key. That should fix it. Clear fingernail polish covering the outside of the post and head of the pivot screw may be enough.
I've had customers complain about this problem on the uj ring key also. Unfortunately, since the pivot screw head points downward it is in the optimum position to be lost in the carpet or floor when it does come out. Then the lost pivot screw has to be replaced also.

You beat me to it John, clear nail polish is something I am almost never without, precisely because of that use.
Still, there has to be a reason these things are falling off and for that, Casey, you really should consult a repair person.

That sounds most lkely to be the side Eb/Bb key. If she puts loctite on that it will probably seize the pivot tube and stop working. Bad move!
If this pivot rod is screwed up TIGHT it won't come loose. Perhaps you are trying to scrrew it up with your fingernail or a toy screw driver?

Perhaps an alternative explanation might be explored: that through the playing of this selection the instrument itself has become accursèd, requiring exorcism. Could someone suggest a proper Chalumeauic Kahuna? I have not personally consulted one in a number of years, after my register key pad fell out during a performance of something-or-other by Dukas.

You are correct about the Eb/Bb and Loctite, but I've never had any complaint about this particular key falling off due to a rod that backed out. Perhaps this is the first. My interpretation of the post is the key in question is the lj ring keys, but perhaps I'm incorrect. Perhpaps Casey can be more specific.

Yes, John. You're right. It is far more likely to be the A/D bridge key if it falls off. We don't have sufficient information. Perhaps the post below the A/D key is loose. Could be anything. Time to see a tech.

I agree with Gordon. I have those problems frequently. It pays to keep a small screwdriver or guitar pick handy.

i got it fixed.....yeah of course it would b a no brainer for you. but for me.......lol.................oh well. it's fixed. and the day i put fingernail polish on my horn......is the day pigs fly people!!!!
