A very famous teacher told me that Moenig barrels are designed only for A clarinets. When using a Bb Moenig barrels (which Moenig did not design for) the intonation is off in the high register and throught. Has anyone heard different?

Barrels of the "Moennig" taper, after Hans Moennig, are reamed according to a set of specifications developed by him in the 1940's.
They were designed for both Bb and A clarinets. I use Moennig barrels on both my instruments and don't have any significant intonation difficulties (in comparison with the normal Buffet barrels that came with the instruments and some Chadash barrels I tried out later while looking to replace the original barrels).
There's a great article at the JD Hite website about these barrels, speciifications, history, etc:

Actually, my Bb and A Moennig barrels make the upper end of the second register a little easier to play in tune. The original Buffet barrels are fine but the high B and C must be managed so they are not too sharp and the Moennig barrels make it easier. The other notes are fine. The sound character difference between the Moennig and the Buffet barrels seem to me to be a matter of personal preference and both are fine.

I use Moennig barrels on my Bbs all the time. Use them on the A's also, but they work on both. I think they've been refined to a high art and there are many manufacturers now.
They have a nice dark tone.
