 Rose Etudes
Author: Lindsey Ondrey

Does any one know of recordings of the Rose Etudes (either book of studies)? I have found that I learn best by hearing a piece over and over for cementing my rhythm, etc. I know that isn't the best way to play, but it seems to be how my brain works. When I look at the notes it doesn't really register in my mind how they should be played until I hear them. I have never heard of recordings of the etudes except for the 6 recordings on tape that my director in HS had for All-State auditions for us to listen to.

There is a nice recording of the Rose 32 and 40 etudes by a well known clarinet teacher in Japan, Mr. Kazuo Fujii. I don't know if any of his CD's are sold in the US, but there is a website in which you can email any questions. Good Luck.

Where did the piano part come from?

He thought it would be nice to have a simple piano accompaniment to go along with the playing, so he had other people compose the piano part for him. It is very unobtrusive, and it actually works quite well. :-)

Rose 40 Etudes, Piano accompaniments composed by Tomoyo Okada, ARUSO Publishing Rose 32 Etudes, Piano accompaniments composed by Mariko Mogi, ARUSO Publishing from Yamaha-Ginza in Japan, Ginza, phone 03-3572-3136; fax 03-3572-379

If you care to "send" me a PDF of the score - I could make a MIDI file for you, if that helps - assuming they're not pages and pages of musicLindsey Ondrey wrote:

I saw your email on Sneezy from sometime ago about the Bonade recording of Rose etudes. The student on the recording was Bob Listokin, and I studied with him for many years. He is retiring from his teaching post this year, and a retirement party will be held for him at the end of April. I am trying to obtain a copy of the record as a retirement present for him. Is there anyway I could make arrangements to obtain a copy (ie a tape or CD) of the record from you. As you know, it is extremely hard to find this record. You can reach me at Xlicia@earthlink.net or at fcampbell@brookspierce.com. Bob is a great person and was one of Bonade's favorite students. Any help you could provide would be great!!. Thanks Forrest
