You want to know all of it's history from the beginning by Joh. Chr. Denner at Nuremberg around 1700 (after he redesigned the racket) with 2 keys, introduction to the orchestras when it reached 5 keys (and a full chromatic range when using forked fingering), the invention of the modern key pad design which lead into the 13 key klarinet of Ivan Müller, the transfer of Theobald Böhm's ring keys to the clarinet by Adolphe Sax and parallel the development of the 'boehm' system by Klose around 1840 (while Albert, Belgium, still made the best intonated instruments using the not-boehm-system - at the beginning of the boehm system development), further developments of the 'german system' (or 'albert system' or 'müller system') which lead to the 'Oehler system' (which is primary used in germany); the change of the "left hand all + right hand index finger only" fingering from Bb/F to B-natural/F# and ('boehm sys' or 'french system' only) back to Bb/F; the change of of playing with reed up (and even the front teeth on the reed) to reed down (and the lip between the reed an the teeth); the development of the lower clarinets (alto and down) starting with the basset horn approx. 1760?
That's too much, even if I do not talk about the literature, the solists and their interference to the instrument makers. But I hope, you have now enough names and terms to search at the next music library.
