Hello college students. I was just wondering what everyone has to do around finals, like for jury? I'm a freshman performance major, and I am playing two of the 32 rose etudes and maybe some scales. I was just wodering what people have to do at different colleges.

I played a memorized Rose etude, some scales (go four octave chromatic!) a Thurston passage from a Beethoven string trio, and sight-reading. Fun stuff.

aahh...juries...I'm a freshman music ed major at the U of Iowa... I have to play a short solo (1st mvmt of the Stamitz - not hard, but they're having all of us play something easy and play it LOUD) and scales. Each of the 7 grad students and the professor asks us a scale - any major, and form of minor. (I just KNOW somebody's going to make me play G# melodic minor...). so we all have to play at least 8 scales. Fun stuff. A week from tomorrow, 8:30am, right before my french final. wish me luck....

ps- and to everybody, you all were right, Dr. Mead is AMAZING.

I just did my jury a couple of hours ago. It was no where near as bad as I thought. I'm glad. Next semester I will be doing the Saint Saens Sonata. Should be FUN!!

I did my jury last week. I played Rose Etude #9 (from 32) and had to know all major scales up to 4b, 4# and do sight reading. I was having a terrible night (not to mention a rather bad semester overall with playing this time) and don't think I did very well though. I only play level 1 by my school's standards and wasn't looking to advance, though, so I guess it wasn't killing me. I'd like to do better, though....it's just more practice practice practice....

I'm a 1st year grad student (performance major) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I'm
playing the Rossini: Introduction, Theme and Variations and then I will sight read. As far
as the undergrads, they play a prepared solo, sight read, and they have to be able to play
all major and minor scales with arpeggios (1st semester students have to know up to 4#'s and
4b's).
Ashley,
Say "hello" to Wendy Benford for me! She and I both did our undergrad at TU.

I just finished third year of my undergrad degree at the Australian National University. I had to play a 35-45 minute program. I played the Debussy Rhapsodie, Messiaen Solo Movement, Bernstein Sonata and the Baermann Adagio with a string quintet. On top of that I had do a technical exam with four studies (one from memory), four excerpts (Cappricio Espangnol, Dances of Galanta, Rach. Piano concerto No.2 and Debussy Prelude to an Afternoon of a faun), and four keys, both major and minor encompassing all notes of the scale between low E and top C.
The requirements for the first years are the same except the recital is only 20 minutes and the studies and excerpts are easier and the scales slower.
