Anna,
I never made it to All-State in Mass, and I only went to District one year on clarinet. The other years I tried out on saxophone for some stupid reason beyond me! Anyway, I think the competition is pretty tough. I think when I went, I made my District by 2 points, and missed All-State auditions by 1. However I could be completely wrong. In high school, I didn't know much about the music I played, and I didn't have very good teachers. I have improved a lot since then and have realized that, while fun and exciting, the honor bands are not as imoportant as I had thought. A lot of the people who sat way up in the section often seemed snobby. Good luck in your audition!
