Some time ago I came across an interesting-looking clarinet in a secondhand market. The keys are very distinctively styled, and there aren't too many of them (which, it turns out, is because it's one of the other systems). Anyway, I thought I'd find out what I could about it on the internet, and that was precisely nothing.
Has anyone heard of (a?) Desidera by Figli of Verona? Or Figli Desidera of Verona? Or a Verona from Desidera of Figli? Or a ... well, you get the picture.
I'd love to know.

Caspar - I can help only to a limited degree. In Rendall's "The Clarinet", Verona is included with several Italian cities for clar mfgr. but no Figlia, perhaps Mark's Langwill may have something. The De[i?]sidera sounds [looks] like the desiderata, which my memory tells me is "desired thing". Others Please Help!! Don

Figli is Italian for sons. (And figlia means daughter.) Desidera means wishes. I'd guess this instrument was made in Verona by a Mr Desidera and his sons. Just a guess, though.
