 Thumb Cushion
Author: Victor

I was wondering which thumb cushion people would recommend using for the default Leblanc adjustable thumb rest. The beam at the back of the rest makes conventional thumb cushions useless.

Of course I can always cut holes into the traditional cusions. I am just wondering if there are any that are good the way it is.

Thanks

I went to Farm and Fleet and purchased a piece of brake hose, the kind you put on your car. Then I cut small sections of it and cut notches on the end slipping over the thumb rest to accomodate any equipement obsticals and it works just fine. Makes the clarinet more stable and provides ample "cushion" for your delicate thumb. And, lots cheaper (and better) than any commercial thumb cushion that I have seen. Got this idea from my old college clarinet professor--now retired to the mouthpiece refacing business. Good Clarineting!!!!!

BG makes a thumb cushion that fits perfectly over my Leblanc adjustable thumbrest. Check out Woodwind and Brasswind (wodwindbrasswind.com) or any other major musical supplier and they should have them. They cost around $4.

You could also just ask your instrument repairman to glue a piece of cork on the thumb rest if you don't like the ones that slide on and off.

I use the [packaged as] "Thumb EEZ" cushions for Bb and the sax size for bass cl etc, about $1 each, quite satisfactory for me. Don

So-called surgical rubber tubing...like that used on slingshots....works pretty good too. Get it at Ace Hardware.
